Product Description
The famous “Ides of March” denarius is one of the most dramatic and historically important coins of the ancient world. Struck by Marcus Junius Brutus between 44–42 BC, this remarkable silver coin openly commemorates the assassination of Julius Caesar — an event that changed the course of Roman history.
The reverse boldly reads EID MAR (Ides of March) and depicts two daggers flanking a liberty cap, symbolizing the conspirators’ claim that Caesar’s death restored freedom to Rome. No other Roman coin so directly celebrates a political assassination.
These coins were minted while Brutus was raising forces before his eventual defeat at Philippi. After his death, many examples were likely melted down by the victorious forces of Mark Antony and Octavian, making surviving specimens exceptionally desirable today.
Owning an EID MAR denarius is more than acquiring a coin — it is holding a silver political manifesto from one of history’s most pivotal moments.
